How this was measured

What these numbers are, and are not

  • Each answer is a real response from an AI engine to a buying question for this industry in this city, for example “best [industry] in [city]” or a more specific service question. Questions are asked repeatedly because AI shortlists change from run to run.
  • A business is counted once per answer that names it, however many times the answer repeats the name. Share of answers is that count divided by every recorded answer across all engines for the pair.
  • Only businesses are listed. Platforms and directories that AI often cites, such as Yelp or Google Maps, are excluded from the shortlist.
  • The list covers the trailing 90 days and is recomputed daily. A business can enter or leave as the engines change their answers, which is the point: this is a measurement, not a ranking Tibly controls.
  • Tibly does not accept payment for placement on these pages, and the list does not indicate whether a business uses Tibly. A business appears because AI named it.
FAQ

Questions about this list

How does AI decide which businesses to recommend?
Engines like ChatGPT retrieve pages from the web and from directories they trust, then name the businesses those sources describe most clearly for the question asked. Yext found 86% of AI citations came from brand-managed sources: owned websites and managed listings such as Yelp and Google Business Profile. A business with a page that plainly answers the question, consistent listings, and reviews is what the engine can safely name.
Why is a business named by one engine but not another?
The engines read different sources. Profound found ChatGPT and Perplexity share only 11% of the domains they cite across 100,000 prompts. That is why the shortlist shows how many engines named each business: a business named by three engines has broader evidence behind it than one named by a single engine.
Can a business pay to appear on this list or in AI answers?
No. Tibly does not sell placement here, and there is no paid placement in the organic recommendation an AI engine gives when someone asks who to hire. The way onto the list is to be the business the engines name, which comes from published answers, complete listings, and corroboration.
My business should be here. What do I do?
Run the free checker for your business first; it shows which questions you are missing from and who is named instead. Then publish a page that answers each losing question directly, complete your Google Business Profile and Yelp listings, make sure AI crawlers can read your site, and re-measure.
